Saar: No other car in the Indian automobile history has achieved this feat at such a fast pace.

It was in May last year when India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new Dzire in India. Since then, the Dzire has been amongst the bestselling cars in the country month-on-month. After just 17 months of its launch, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has clocked surpassed 3 lakh sales mark. No other car in the Indian automobile history has achieved this feat at such a fast pace. In fact, in July this year, the Dzire dethroned the Maruti Suzuki Alto to become India’s bestselling car. The Maruti Suzuki Swift is on its way to achieving a similar feat as it managed to clock 1 lakh sales in less than five months.

In a press release, R S Kalsi, senior executive director, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., shared some interesting facts about the third-generation sub-4 metre sedan. Compared to the sales of the previous generation Dzire, the new model’s sales have grown by 28 per cent. He further mentioned that over 25 per cent of customers have opted for top variants and nearly 20 per cent of buyers have gone for the automatic. For the record, the AMT (automated manual transmission) is available with the Dzire from the V trim upwards.

As per Maruti Suzuki, around 75 per cent of the customers who visit the Maruti Suzuki Arena showrooms come with a pre-decision of purchasing the Dzire. That’s why the carmaker has managed to sell nearly 18,000 units of the Dzire on an average every month since the car was launched last year.

The Dzire is available with two engine options – 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel. While the former produces 83PS/113Nm, the latter is good for 75PS/190Nm. Both engines can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. In India, the Dzire competes with the likes of the Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor (mild facelift coming soon) and the recently launched Ford Aspire facelift.
