Say hello to the eleventh BS6-ready (Bharat Stage 6) model from Maruti Suzuki – the Ciaz. And as expected, the diesel-fed derivatives are not part of the range anymore. Prices for the updated Maruti Suzuki Ciaz start at Rs 8.31 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 11.09 lakh, before taxes. When compared to the corresponding BSIV (Bharat Stage IV) prices, the upgraded range costs between Rs 11,000 and Rs 22,000 more. Here’s the new price list:
In case you didn’t notice, Maruti Suzuki has brought back the “Sporty” S trim for the Ciaz. In terms of kit, it shares everything with the top-spec Alpha trim but costs Rs 11,000 more. Why? Because in terms of design, there are a few differences. Outdoors, the Ciaz S gets a few blacked-out panels, including a boot-mounted rear spoiler, ORVM caps, side skirts and a dual-tone rear bumper. Even the 16-inch alloys boast a black finish. Inside the cabin, the sporty version packs an all-black theme. Finally, the Ciaz S is available in only three colours – red, silver and white.
Powering the entire range of BS6-compliant Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which does duty in the Ertiga and its cosmetically-changed cousin, the XL6. The motor, which produces 103bhp/138Nm, comes mated to a mild-hybrid system. And under the transmissions section, there are two to choose from – a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Like those options and figures, Maruti Suzuki has kept the list of features unchanged.
Maruti Suzuki says that it has sold over 2.7 lakh units of the Ciaz since its launch in 2014. As things stand, the sedan has a market share of 29 per cent. In India, the Ciaz competes with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. The new-gen City and the refreshed Verna should launch in India during the first half of 2020. As for the Vento and the Rapid, both will ditch diesel and receive a new petrol engine for the BS6 era.
