It was only last week when Hyundai started accepting bookings for the Alcazar. Now, we’ve got the prices. What becomes the brand’s fourth conventionally powered SUV starts at Rs 16.3 lakh and goes up to Rs 20 lakh. The prices are introductory in nature. Hyundai has devised several variants, covering two engine and transmission options each and six- and seven-seat layouts. Here’s the complete price list:
The Alcazar borrows its engines and transmissions from the Elantra. That means diesel-fed versions get the 1.5-litre mill that puts out 113bhp/250Nm. The petrol-powered ones house a 2.0-litre unit that produces 157bhp/191Nm. Hyundai has tweaked the latter motor to produce 7bhp more than what it generates in the Elantra and Tucson. Both powerplants are available with a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission. With the petrol-MT combo, the Alcazar can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 9.5 seconds. Mileage figures? The petrol-MT and petrol-AT combos can return as high as 14.5kmpl and 14.2kmpl, respectively. The most frugal pairing is the diesel-MT, which can deliver 20.4kmpl. As for the diesel-AT, that’s a close second at 18.1kmpl.
Hyundai has packed the Alcazar with a bunch of segment-first features. The list includes an 8-speaker Bose sound system, side footsteps, a sliding sun visor, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and rear window sunshades. The SUV also offers stuff like Hyundai’s BlueLink connected-car tech, 8-way powered driver’s seat, 64-colour ambient lighting, voice-enabled panoramic sunroof and three traction control modes and drive modes each.
As for the colour options, there are six monotone and two dual-tone finishes available. The former category consists of Phantom Black, Polar White, Starry Night, Taiga Brown, Titan Grey and Typhoon Silver. In the latter, one can have the roof finished in Phantom Black with the body in either Polar White or Titan Grey.
Like other Hyundai models, the Alcazar comes with Wonder Warranty. In essence, it gives the buyer the flexibility to choose between three pre-defined warranty periods, ranging up to 5 years. In India, the Hyundai Alcazar will compete with the Mahindra XUV500, Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus. Out of the lot, which one is your favourite?
