Are you amongst the many who are really looking forward to the Mahindra XUV300? It is time to get your name in the queue as the homegrown automaker has begun accepting bookings for the upcoming compact SUV. The minimum booking about has been set at Rs 20,000 and you can reserve one for yourself by either visiting the nearest authorised dealership or via Mahindra XUV300’s official website.

Mahindra has also taken the opportunity to unveil some information about the variants, trims, engine and transmission options, features, exterior colours and expected price range for the XUV300. Since the compact SUV falls in the same line as the bigger XUV500, it will follow the same variant nomenclature. The Mahindra XUV300 will be offered in three trims – W4, W6 and W8. The W8 trim will also be offered with an option pack and that trim will be tagged as W8 (O).

As far as variants bifurcation is concerned, they will be split amongst two engine options and a single transmission. As reported earlier, the Mahindra XUV300 will be available with both petrol and diesel engines. Both will be turbocharged but while the former will displace 1.2 litres of fuel, the latter will have 1.5-litre displacement capacity. Mahindra has also gone ahead and revealed that the torque figures for the petrol and diesel engines are 200Nm and 300Nm respectively. That means the compact SUV will have the torquiest engines in its segment. Both engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Yes, there won’t be any AT or AMT on offer at the time of launch.

The company has been adamant on a fact that the Mahindra XUV300 will offer “first-in-class high-tech features and best-in-class safety.” All that might just be true as Mahindra has revealed some of the features that its newest product will bring. The standard set of features include dual airbags, ABS, disc brakes on all wheels, all four power windows and LED-powered taillights. The range-topping trims will get features like dual-zone climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7 airbags, 17-inch alloy wheels and a sunroof.

The Mahindra XUV300 will be offered in six colours for the exterior – Sunburst Orange, Red Rage, Aqua Marine, Napoli Black, Pearl White and Dsat Silver. All colours options will be offered with both the engines and on all variants.

Mahindra will launch the XUV300 in the first half of February 2019. The SUV has been designed to compete with products ranging between Rs 8-12 lakh in the Indian market. That means the Mahindra XUV300 won’t be undercutting the likes of Tata Nexon or the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Instead, it will take on the more expensive Ford EcoSport and also the Hyundai Creta.
