Saar: The reason cited for this step is the increase in commodity prices.
Mahindra has joined the list of manufacturers which have announced a price hike from next month. From August 1, 2018, the Scorpio-maker will revise the price list of its models, increasing the prices by up to Rs 30,000 or 2 per cent. Here’s what Rajan Wadhera, president, automotive sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said:
“With the ongoing increase in commodity prices, we plan to take a price hike of up to 2 per cent in some models.”
Currently, Mahindra sells a range of vehicles right from the sub-4 metre KUV100 to its flagship model – the XUV500. If we assume that the most expensive car will get the steepest hike in prices, the range-topping variant – W11 (O) AWD AT – will surpass the Rs 19 lakh mark and will retail at an ex-showroom price (Mumbai) of Rs 19.28 lakh. That will make it dearer than the Longitude variants of the Jeep Compass and nearly Rs 1 lakh expensive that base-spec petrol variant of the Hyundai Tucson. Apart from those two, the Mahindra XUV500 also competes with the Tata Hexa which, amongst all Tata Motors models, will also see a hike in price from August 1.
It isn’t just the ‘Desi’ boys who are getting nasty with the prices. Earlier this month, Honda Cars India announced that from August this year, it will increase the prices of its products in the range of Rs 10,000 to Rs 35,000. On July 17, 2018, Hyundai Motor India announced that its Grand i10 will see a bump in price by up to 3 per cent. Japanese carmaker Toyota is also expected to make up its mind about increasing the prices of its products in India from next month onwards.
If you are after a Mahindra, Honda or a Tata Motors product, it is better that you book one before the end of July to miss paying the hiked prices.
