Mahindra, as we know, makes vehicles to serve both the commercial and personal segments. The automaker has confirmed that a total of 18 products will be on show at the fifteenth edition of the Auto Expo. The biennial event will open its gates to the public on February 7, 2020. In addition to product showcases, Mahindra will also display new electric vehicle architecture, an electric mobility platform, charging stations, BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) petrol engines, electric batteries, a new EV concept vehicle and a zero-waste automobile recycling solution.
Amongst those 18 products will be three production-ready EVs (Electric Vehicles). Mahindra hasn’t confirmed which ones. However, the eKUV 100 and the XUV300 EV are most likely to fill two out of three spots. The third one will most likely be a commercial three-wheeler. Mahindra could also unveil new-gen versions of the Scorpio and the XUV500 at the event. If, however, you are counting on the new Thar, then you will be disappointed. The company has decided to hold a separate event for its most-awaited product of the year.
As things stand, only one Mahindra product, that too partially, is ready to march on into the BS6 era – the petrol-powered XUV300. The subcompact SUV received its upgraded gasoline powertrain in December last year. Because of that, the entire petrol-fed range got dearer by about Rs 20,000. In the month before that, Mahindra had issued a recall for some XUV300 units. Each one had to go under inspection to zero-down on a faulty suspension component. Earlier this week, Global NCAP released the crash-test results for the SUV in question. It dislodged the Altroz from the pole position to become the safest made-in- and made-for-India vehicle.
The sales figures for the Apr-Dec 2019 period show that Mahindra has cemented its place as the third-largest carmaker in India. In comparison to fourth-placed Tata Motors, the Scorpio-maker sold 54 per cent more vehicles over the said period.
