Saar: That sustainable ecosystem will be built around the concept of e-mobility.

On the occasion of this year’s World Environment Day, Mahindra inked yet another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which brings the world of e-mobility into the limelight. The company’s dedicated division, Mahindra Electric, has joined hands with Auroville, which is an experimental township established in 1968 in Tamil Nadu, to co-develop India’s first integrated sustainable mobility ecosystem for a community.

The proposed ecosystem will essentially be an extension of the work that Auroville has done over the years, covering several e-mobility initiatives. The idea is to encourage people towards quiet mobility, sharing of resources, HOHO (hop-on-hop-off) shuttles and smart parking. The collective effort will eventually result in a reduced carbon footprint.

As per the signed MoU, Mahindra Electric and Auroville will work in tandem with IISc (Indian Institute of Science), Puducherry Smart City Development Ltd. and GoGreen BOV, and other e-mobility initiatives at Auroville itself, to develop an ecosystem that gels together Mahindra’s electric vehicles with smart parking systems, charging infrastructure and Auroville’s software integration platform NEMO. Additionally, the Tower Planner, PSCDL, supported by the French Government, will also back up the project.

Mahindra Inks Two MoUs With Maharashtra Govt For EV Production And Deployment

Upon signing the MoU, Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric, said:

“Mahindra has been working for close to a decade in developing the electric eco-system in India. The evolution of a common platform integrating mobility, energy storage and charging for an entire community is an important step to ensure quick scalability in future. There is great synergy between Auroville’s vision to create a green mobility system and our initiatives to help more people adopt EV technology.”

Minhaj Ameen, coordinator, Integrated Transport Services, Auroville, added:

“After two decades of experimenting with-mobility solutions for public and private transport for the community, Auroville believes that the innovation in technology and support from partners such as Mahindra Electric, IISC and Go Green will enable Auroville to start prototyping end-to-end sustainable mobility solutions which can then be replicated across other cities.”

Both parties will also introduce mobility services like ride sharing, ride-hailing and self-drive rentals. Mahindra Electric also took the opportunity to unveil its energy storage solution which will support the charging infrastructure, parking and support centre for EVs (electric vehicles). The system will replenish itself from renewable energy sources, making it a completely green solution.
