According to western superstition, Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day. Today marks the second of such days this year. Porsche, however, clearly doesn’t believe in that notion because today it has launched the Cayenne Coupé in India. The model arrives in two variants – standard and Turbo. While the former carries a price tag of Rs 1.32 crore, the latter is available at Rs 1.98 crore. Both those figures do not have the registration, and other taxes included.
The Cayenne Coupé will attract a particular kind of customer. One who seeks a high-riding Porsche, and carries a sporty silhouette. With that sloping roofline, the Coupé doesn’t score points as high as the Cayenne SUV does. However, the newcomer will surely turn more heads. The rest of the package, including the powertrains and features, is shared between the two siblings.
Get the standard Cayenne Coupé, and you’ll get a 3.0-litre V6 producing 335bhp/450Nm. The Turbo, on the other hand, boasts a 4.0-litre V8 which pumps out 542bhp/770Nm. Both engines come coupled to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The 0-100kmph sprint times with Sport Chrono Package, for the V6 and the V8, are 6 seconds and 3.9 seconds respectively. The claimed top speed figures, in the same order, are 243kmph and 286kmph.
As far as the list of features goes, it will depend on which of the two variants one buys. The Cayenne Coupé gets gizmos like LED headlamps with Porsche Dynamic Light System, a head-up display, part-digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting and four-zone climate control. If all that doesn’t float your boast, the model also comes with rear-wheel-steering, mixed-profile tyres, alloy wheels up to 22 inches in size and a Burmester 3D sound system.
Like all Porsches, the Cayenne Coupé arrives in India via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. That’s the main reason for the eye-watering pricing. Later, Porsche India will add at least one e-Hybrid variant to the Cayenne Coupé’s portfolio. The model is Porsche’s answer to the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé (new one coming next year), the Audi Q8 (launching in January 2020) and the BMW X6 (the latest iteration should arrive in 2020).
