It was back in April this year when details about the new Land Rover Discovery surfaced. However, official bookings for the SUV opened in June 2021. And now, we know how much it costs. Prices start at Rs 88.06 lakh. Unlike before, when the Discovery was available with just one powertrain, the choice has now widened to three. As for the trim levels, there are seven of them.
Seven? Yes – Standard, S, SE, HSE, R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE and R-Dynamic HSE. Those settling for the Standard trim will have to make do with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol producing 296bhp/400Nm. That’s enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 201kmph. All others have two additional options – a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol with 355bhp/500Nm and a 3.0-litre diesel putting out 296bhp/650Nm. With the former, the new Discovery can hit 100kmph from nothing in 6.5 seconds and clock 209kmph flat out. Choose the latter, and the standard sprint time falls to 6.8 seconds, but the top speed remains the same.
No matter which variant you choose, the new Land Rover Discovery will have an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system. In addition, derivatives with either of the 3.0-litre powerplants will also feature a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that aids in acceleration and mileage. As standard, all variants will come with stuff like electronic air suspension, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, powered sunroof and the 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system with connected-car tech.
If all that is a bit poor for you, don’t fret as the new Discovery offers a lot more. The list includes 20-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlamps, hands-free tailgate operation, Meridian sound system, adaptive cruise control and a digital instrument cluster. Yes, there’s an options list too. In there, you’ll find stuff like four-zone climate control, cabin air purification with a PM2.5 filter, heated steering wheel and an active rear locking differential.
The new Land Rover Discovery offers a wide variety of specifications, something that the rivals don’t. Speaking of which, it competes with the BMW X5, Volvo XC90 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE.
