In 2019, Lamborghini sold 8,205 units worldwide. That helped the carmaker record a growth of 43 per cent over the previous year. In other words, last year was Lamborghini’s best-ever in history. To hit the ground running this year, the Italian firm unveiled the rear-wheel-drive derivative of the Huracan Evo earlier this month. The said model now has a launch date for India – January 29, 2020. That means the new variant arrives in less than a month after making a global debut.
Powering the rear-wheel-drive Huracan Evo is the same 5.2-litre, naturally-aspirated V10 that does duty in other Huracan iteration. With 602bhp/560Nm on tap, the engine produces 28bhp/40Nm less than the all-wheel-drive Huracan Evo. Because of that deficit, the new variant takes 3.3 seconds and 9.3 seconds to reach 100kmph and 200kmph from a standstill, respectively. That 0.4 seconds and 0.3 seconds slower. Flat out, the RWD supercar can clock 325kmph, which is predictably less as well.
To make the new Hurcan iteration standout, Lamborghini has added some bespoke design elements. For instance, the front and the rear feature different fascias. There’s also an angrier-looking diffuser at the back. In terms of technology, the Huracan Evo rear-wheel-drive packs Lamborghini’s Performance Traction Control System. Based on the selected driving mode, the system adjusts rear-wheel slippage. In Strada mode, for example, the slippage is minimal whereas the Sport mode maximises the fun (makes the car tail-happy).
Lamborghini said that the first customers would take delivery of the new Huracan Evo variant in Spring of 2020. In the UK, its sticker price is 137,000 GBP (~ Rs 1.3 crore). However, it should cost close to Rs 3.5 crore in India. That’s courtesy of the hefty import taxes applicable on CBU (Completely Built Unit) cars. The baby bull’s list of direct rivals includes the Aston Martin Vantage and the Porsche 911.
