Behold! The mid-life update of the Lamborghini Huracan. And, it’s aptly dubbed as the Huracan EVO. As always, the mad Italians have managed to strike a near-perfect balance between beauty and aggression in the baby bull’s design. But Lamborghini would argue that it isn’t art that has dominated the looks of the Huracan EVO. It is, in fact, geeky attention to detail on a scientific aspect called aerodynamics has brought about a number of design and technical changes.
Before we get to those, let’s just understand what’s powering the refreshed Huracan. In essence, it is the same 5.2-litre, naturally-aspirated V10 from before but now churns out 640PS of power and 600Nm of torque. Lambo fans will tell you that those figures are exactly the same as the mad but brilliant Huracan Performante. For the record, the Performante went around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes 52.01 seconds in 2017 and held the lap record for a while.
Anyway, back to the refreshed baby bull. Its engine comes mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission which feeds power to the road via an updated all-wheel-drive system. Lamborghini claims that the Huracan EVO can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 2.9 seconds (same as the Performante), accelerate to 200kmph in 9.0 seconds (0.1 seconds slower than the Performante) and go past 325kmph at full stretch. The real reason behind why EVO’s acceleration isn’t as quick as the Performante’s is because it is slightly heavier on its toes. That said, at 1,442kg of dry weight, the refreshed Huracan still has an impressive weight-to-power ratio of 2.22kg/PS.
The performance in a straight line or around corners isn’t just courtesy of more power. The Italians have also equipped the Huracan EVO with rear-wheel-steering for better stability at high speeds and more agility through corners, and a four-wheel torque vectoring system. The active suspension has also been tinkered with and it now boasts faster adaptable dampers. As for the all-wheel-drive system, it can now transfer the available power to even a single wheel.
In terms of design, the Lamborghini Huracan EVO features a new front bumper with a splitter which features an active wing to improve aerodynamics. On the sides, the sportscar gets new 20-inch alloys and restyled air intakes, whereas the rear features a dual-exhaust setup (like that on the Performante) and a meaner bumper.
Inside the cabin, the main highlight is the 8.4-inch touchscreen mounted just above the starter button. The display can understand multi-finger gestures and can control everything from the automatic climate control and seats to pairing a smartphone via Apple CarPlay. The system also supports voice recognition. However, if you want Lamborghini to fit a dual-camera telemetry system, you will have to enter the options list. The said list will also include styling packs, carbon composites among several other upgrades.
Lamborghini will commence deliveries of the Huracan EVO from March this year. The car is priced at 165,256 GBP (without taxes) in the UK. Based on the current exchange rates, it is about Rs 1.48 crore. However, when it arrives in India it will be nudging the Rs 3 crore mark as it will attract all the steep taxes applicable on completely built units (CBUs).
