Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Shatters Nürburgring Lap Record
Saar: It completed the 20.6km lap in 6 minutes and 44.97 seconds; that’s 2.33 seconds faster than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
Lamborghini has done it again! Its track-focused Aventador SVJ (SuperVeloce Jota), which is still behind a lot of camouflage, has broken the lap record at ‘Green Hell’, which is also known as the Nürburgring. The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ completed the 20.6km lap in 6 minutes and 44.97 seconds. That is 2.33 seconds faster than the previous record holder – the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The Germans won’t be happy! Although, both companies are under the massive umbrella of the Volkswagen Group.
Why did we start this story with that sentence? Well, the story started with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which posted a lap time of 6 minutes 56.4 seconds at the Nürburgring. Lamborghini broke that record with the Huracán Performante, which went around the same track 4.39 seconds quicker. The tables turned again when Porsche brought the GT2 RS on the track and smashed the Huracán Performante’s record. You get what we are trying to say. It’s tit-for-tat all the way. Wonder what Porsche will bring to try and reclaim the top spot.
Anyway, Lamborghini says that “the Aventador SVJ has been entirely re-engineered to enhance its four-wheel-drive system, rear-wheel steering and ESC”. The company also claims that it is “significantly stiffer” than the Aventador LP 750-4 SV. The SVJ iteration of the Aventador comes with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, which have been specifically designed for the track monster. However, Lamborghini used the optional Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres for the lap record attempt.
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has a weight-to-power ratio of only 1.98kg/hp. It also features the ALA (Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva) 2.0 active aerodynamics system with aero vectoring to be agile and grippy as and when needed. The company has been busy releasing teaser videos of the Aventador SVJ being fine-tuned and hurling around the ‘Green Hell’. You can watch the first two here.
Stefano Domenicali, chairman and CEO, Automobili Lamborghini, has confirmed that the Aventador SVJ, which we think will be the moniker’s last hurrah before an electrified replacement comes into the equation, will break cover during the Monterey Car Week in California next month. At the very same event, Bentley will unveil the Mulsanne W.O. Edition By Mulliner; Bugatti will showcase its 5 million euro Divo supercar, and Automobili Pininfarina will secretly unveil the PF0’s concept to only a few sets of eyes.
