What’s up with that title? Well, it was a desperate attempt to make you think outside the box! Sorry! Don’t worry, though; we’ll explain the logic behind it later. What you see here is the Jeep Compass Night Eagle. With only 250 units planned, it is a limited-edition derivative of the company’s bestseller in India. To create it, what Jeep has done is take all three Longitude Plus variants and garnish them with some black-coloured elements. Here’s how the price list looks like:
So, what do you get for the extra Rs 45,000? In addition to some exclusivity, you get a Compass with a sporty makeover. The Night Eagle variants feature black inserts on the grille, black 18-inch alloy wheels and blacked-out Jeep badges. Indoors, you get an all-black theme with gloss-black inserts on the dashboard and part-leather seat covers. That’s it!
Those who want a petrol-powered engine will get a 1.4-litre turbocharged unit that produces 161bhp/250Nm. The only transmission option for the Night Eagle variant is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Diesel lovers, on the other hand, will get a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor mated either to a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic (torque converter) gearbox. The engine produces 171bhp/350Nm and is also available with Jeep’s 4×4 system.
The limited-edition variants also get a long list of creature comforts. The list includes cruise control, push-button start/stop, dual-zone climate control, keyless go, a rear-view camera and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In essence, they get all the Longitude Plus goodies.
Why do we think Jeep should have used a hashtag in the name? Well, that’s because this version of the Compass is a direct rival to the Tata Harrier #Dark Edition. You can now relate! No? Ah, never mind! In India, the Compass also rivals the MG Hector and the Hyundai Tucson. Jeep will introduce a mid-life update of the Compass either by the 2020 end or early next year.
