Jeep India will launch the Compass Trailhawk in July 2019. To get the numbers running, the American automaker has commenced accepting bookings for the upcoming Compass derivative. Those who are interested in reserving one for themselves can do so by paying a minimum token amount of Rs 50,000 at any of the 82 FCA showrooms across the country.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is a special derivative of the company’s bestselling SUV in India. Once launched, it will become the first Compass variant to feature a BSVI-compliant (Bharat Stage VI) powertrain. It will comprise of an updated version of the same 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that powers the rest of the range. The power figures, thankfully, will remain identical at 173PS/350Nm. Giving birth to a diesel-automatic combination will be a 9-speed unit, a much-awaited feature amongst Compass loyalists.

That’s not all! The Compass Trailhawk will also feature Jeep’s ‘Active Drive Low 4×4 system’ which ropes in features like low-range, hill-descent and a ‘Rock’ mode in the Selec-Terrain system. The said system also has other drive modes – Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud. To tackle the rough stuff even better, the Compass Trailhawk has 205mm of ground clearance which is 27mm more than any of the other Compass variants. Additionally, the Trailhawk’s water-wading depth is 483mm, which is 153mm more than the other derivatives. Lastly, the bodywork has been restyled to carve out approach, ramp break over and departure angles of 26.5 degrees, 21.2 degrees and 31.6 degrees, respectively.

Over to the list of features. On the outside, the upcoming SUV will flaunt ‘Trail-Rated’ badges on front fenders, new dual-tone alloy wheels, a dual-tone bonnet, a red tow hook at the rear and gunmetal finish on the seven-slat grille, window line and fog lamp surrounds. Inside the cabin, the Compass Trailhawk will come with an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, auto stop-start function, cruise control, all-weather mats and a 7.0-inch MID. On the safety front, it will pack six airbags, traction control, hill-start assist, electronic parking brake and rear parking sensors.

Although the Trailhawk will be the most expensive Compass iteration in India, it still won’t have some features that are found on the Limited Plus trim. The list includes power-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic headlamps and automatic wipers. The panoramic sunroof, however, will be available as an optional extra. This, as you’d expect, has been done to keep the asking price competitive enough. Speaking of which, it should carry an ex-showroom price south of Rs 25 lakh.
