Jaguar has unveiled the thoroughly refreshed version of its entry-level sedan – the XE. At first glance, it is hard to see what’s different, but as you get into the finer details, the changes are more evident than you can imagine. Jaguar designers took inspiration from two other models – the I-Pace and the F-Type – to tweak the look and feel of the revamped XE. Let’s see! Wait, did that rhyme?!
First up, the design changes. The baby Jag gets revised front and rear bumpers, new and broader front grille which is reminiscent of the one planted on the I-Pace and slimmer headlamps and taillamps, both of which are also reprofiled and full-LED. Behind the enlarged Jaguar badge on the front grille is the radar for Adaptive Cruise Control and the XE also gets Jaguar’s ClearSight camera which is hydrophobic and integrated into a small fin on the roof. Customers opting for the R-Dynamic trim will get angrier styling with different front and rear fascia.
The cabin now features more soft-touch materials covering the door trims, centre console, the top of the dashboard and bit and pieces in the rear passenger area. Dominating the dashboard is Jaguar’s Touch Pro Duo system which includes a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Behind the new multifunction steering wheel (as seen on the I-Pace) is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the centre console now features a SportShift Gear Selector and JaguarDrive Control switch from the F-Type.
Over to the engines department. With its mid-life update, the Jaguar XE comes with a leaner choice for power-plants. There are three 2.0-litre Ingenium engines to choose from – two petrol and one diesel. Customers opting for the petrol will have a choice between a 250PS/RWD setup or a 300PS/AWD one. The diesel, on the other hand, puts out a modest 180PS but more importantly 430Nm of torque. All three engines are turbocharged.
The Jaguar XE facelift comes with more kit as standard. The list now includes an automatic transmission, 18-inch alloy wheels, all-LED headlamps and taillamps, powered leather seats, front and rear parking aid, a rear-view camera, and lane-keep assist. The options list includes Jaguar Matrix technology from headlamps, performance brakes, coloured brake callipers, boot-mounted spoiler and adaptive dynamics. Customers can also opt for one of the predefined personalisation packages, such as Cold Climate Pack, Business Pack and Convenience Pack.
The refreshed XE has gone on sale in its home country – the UK. It will soon find its way to India as well. Once launched, it will renew its rivalry with the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4.
