Saar: Both have been filed under multiple classifications with the European Intellectual Property Office.
British car marque Jaguar has trademarked two nameplates for its future models – C-Pace and J-Type. Both names have been filed under multiple classifications, including those assigned for autonomous vehicles, software, automobiles and, repairs and servicing, with the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). This information was uncovered by folks at AutoGuide via the EUIPO website.
And now we arrive at what we like to call – Speculation Street. So then, the Jaguar C-Pace. What can it be? Well, Jaguar uses the ‘Pace’ tag for its range of crossovers. We already have the Jaguar F-Pace in India and, internationally Jaguar also sells the smaller E-Pace and the pure electric I-Pace. Logic dictates that the C-Pace could very well sit below the E-Pace. But we doubt that will happen because we don’t see Jaguar putting another, smaller crossover into production which undercuts the E-Pace. Instead, could it be a coupe version of either the E-Pace or the F-Pace? If yes, then Jaguar will finally have something in its own portfolio to take on the BMW X4, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and its own sibling, the Range Rover Evoque.
So, what about the J-Type? In Jaguar’s world, the ‘Type’ tag has always been reserved for sports cars. It produced the E-Type, which was also known as the XK-E, back in the 1960s and currently its sports car category has the F-Type. By that logic, the J-Type would be a bigger, more powerful two-seater sports car which could fall in the range of the BMW 8 Series, Mercedes-AMG GT and the Audi R8. Or, it could very well be a replacement to the F-Type, with Jaguar reportedly getting the nod to make a mid-engine sports car.
Jaguar Land Rover Calls Out For Clarity Over Brexit Aftermath
Of course, there is a possibility that the projects won’t come to life at all. It happens even after manufacturers apply for trademarks. And with the uncertainties surrounding Brexit at the moment, who knows what will unfold for the Jaguar Land Rover company. That said, we’ll surely keep an eye out on any further developments on these new name tags. And just to add that extra pinch of spice in the mix, there have been rumours that Jaguar is also working to make a J-Pace.
