Ever since Hyundai introduced the Nios, there have been questions about the Grand i10’s fate. To reduce the cannibalisation between the two siblings, the carmaker axed all diesel-fed and petrol-AMT variants of the Grand i10. And now, with the BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) update, it has become even more evident that the hatchback might not get a generation change. The CNG variant, which received a price less than a year ago, has gone too.

As things stand, the Hyundai Grand i10 comes in two trim levels – Magna and Sportz. In both, you could either get a solid or a metallic finish. As far as pricing goes, the car starts at Rs 5.87 lakh and goes up to Rs 6 lakh. The prices do not include any taxes. The only engine-transmission option available is the 1.2-litre petrol (82bhp/114Nm) with a 5-speed manual.

On the standard list of features, the Grand i10 boasts keyless entry, manual AC with vents for rear passengers, two power outlets, multifunction steering wheel, rear parking sensors, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and power windows with auto-down function for the driver. Gizmos such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear defogger, a rear-view camera, front fog lamps, voice recognition, power-folding ORVMs with turn indicators and LED DRLs are available with the Sportz trim only.

Frankly, it is sad to see the Grand i10 diminishing. It once shared the battleground with the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ford Figo. Hyundai has handed over the gauntlet to the Nios, which is a more rounded product overall. It recently received a couple of Turbo variants that aim to please those who want a go-fast small hatchback. Those, along with the rest of the Nios range, comply with the stricter emission norms already. Are you sad to see the Grand i10 fading away?
