Saar: It will come with a new 3.0-litre diesel engine and more safety tech.
Planning to buy a Land Rover Discovery? Well, we’d hold on because the British carmaker has revealed the 2019 Discovery. It will be offered with a new diesel engine and more safety tech. Since it isn’t one of the model locally produced in India, it will be imported as is.
Let’s unravel the new engine first. It is a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged unit, codenamed SDV6, and puts out 306PS of power and 700Nm of torque. That’s 6PS more than the 3.0-litre D300 diesel engine currently on offer in India with the Range Rover Velar. However, compared to the 2018 Land Rover Discovery which is also available with a 3.0-litre diesel mill, the new engine has 48PS/100Nm more oomph. Transmission duties will continue to be taken care of by the 8-speed automatic unit.

The new engine features a revised intake system with twin intercoolers and an eight-nozzle injector design for better performance and efficiency. Land Rover claims that the sprint from nought to 100kmph can be completed in 7.5 seconds, which is 0.6 seconds faster than the 3.0-litre diesel-fed variant we have in the 2018 model.
Other improvements are in the safety department. The 2019 Land Rover Discovery will be offered with Clear Exit Detection. The system alerts the driver and passengers if vehicles or other hazards are approaching from behind when exiting the SUV. As an alert, a warning light will flash on the opened door. Here’s a video that shows how it works.
Land Rover has also upgraded the Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go support. As it suggests, the vehicle can now automatically stop itself if it encounters traffic and also starts on its own when the road in front gets clear. These features with other driver assistance gadgets make the Discovery on the safest SUVs money can buy. Expect Jaguar Land Rover India to get it on our shores sooner than later.
