Multiple reports in the recent past have pointed at a possible introduction of Hyundai’s N Line range of cars in India. Well, to knock that speculation down once and for all, the carmaker has confirmed it. Yes, the N Line models will be introduced in India, one of which will be amongst us before 2021 comes to a close.
What is N Line?
Hyundai has an in-house tuning division called N. They help produce some of the sportiest cars by taking inspiration from the world of motorsports. Those models pack some serious power, courtesy of big engines and a whole lot of toughened-up mechanical stuff. So, just to put that in perspective, a Hyundai N model is, in theory, like a Mercedes-AMG. On the other hand, an N Line model flaunts an equally sporty design but without any serious mechanical changes to the standard car. That would like a Mercedes-Benz in AMG Line trim.
How many N Line models will be launched in India?
At the moment, it’s tough to answer that with a figure. But Hyundai has confirmed that multiple models are in the pipeline. And, as mentioned above, one will be introduced within the current calendar year.
Which N Line model will become the first one?
Again, nothing concrete here. But, going by the several spy shots and multiple speculations, the i20 is expected to take that title. The N Line treatment should fall in line with what Hyundai sells in the UK. That means aggressive styling inside and out, with a turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet. In India, the i20 N Line will get the 1.0-litre TGDi mill that puts out 118bhp/172Nm.
How expensive will be the N Line variants?
Considering that an N Line model will mostly carry the same mechanical stuff as the standard car, the price difference shouldn’t be too steep. Moreover, Hyundai says that it will develop N Line cars in India on three brand values. They are – motorsport-inspired styling cues, accessible to all, and everyday excitement. That means the N Line models will be locally manufactured to carry enticing price tags for the masses.
So, there you have it. A range of sporty-looking Hyundais is coming. Unsurprisingly, their target audience will be amongst the younger population. How excited are you?
