Are you in the market to purchase a premium hatchback that has a rugged outlook? Good news! Hyundai has silently launched the 2019 i20 Active with prices starting at Rs 7.74 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Too pricy? Well, that’s because the car’s trim tree now starts at S. In other words, the Hyundai i20 Active is no longer available in the base trim. The number of variants has also dropped from seven to just four. Here’s the complete price list:

As the table reveals, the four comprises of three petrol variants and a one diesel derivative. That means if you want a diesel-powered i20 Active, all you need to think about is which single colour want it in. You have a choice of three which are available with black-and-blue interiors – Stardust, Typhoon Silver and Polar White. If you want the alternative black-and-red ambience indoors, the body colour options come down to two – Fiery Red and Polar White. The same holds for petrol-powered variants as well, unless you want the dual-tone finish. Hyundai is offering just two combinations – Marina Blue with White roof, and Polar White with Black roof.

Mechanically, there are no changes to report. The 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine produces 82bhp/115Nm and comes coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission, whereas the 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder diesel is good for 89bhp/220Nm and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Both powertrains still only comply with BSIV (Bharat Stage IV) levels of emission norms. It remains to be seen whether Hyundai carries these powertrains over into the BS6 era, which will come to life from April 1, 2020.

The i20 Active was always handsomely equipped, and that still holds for the updated version. As standard, the car comes with features such as dual airbags, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, projector headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels and a 7.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SX trim ropes in gizmos like push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, a rear wiper with washer, automatic headlamps and side & curtain airbags.
