Hyundai has kept itself busy ever since India started to ease down the lockdown enforcements. It has launched models, created more records and, of course, introduced campaigns including the second phase of ‘Hyundai Cares’. In September 2020, the South Korean carmaker bagged an order of 100 Kona Electric SUVs from EESL, and introduced the Premium Assurance Program for Tucson and Elantra customers. What it also did was perform well in terms of monthly sales.
In the domestic market, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., (HMIL) sold 50,313 units last month. That, compared to the performance in September 2019, shows a growth of 23.6 per cent. During these challenging times, with several restrictions in movement and manufacturing, the company also exported 9,600 units to markets outside India. Put together, HMIL registered sales of 59,913 units in September 2020. During the same month last year, the company sold 57,705. That shows a growth of about 3.8 per cent.
Here’s what Tarun Garg, who is the director of sales, marketing & service at HMIL, said about the performance:
In the changing business environment, the green shoots of recovery are clearly visible with sales improving on a month-on-month as well as year on year basis. HMIL continued its good sales momentum helped by high customer acceptance for the all-new Creta, Venue, Tucson & Kona Electric in the SUV segment, Verna, Aura & Elantra in Sedan segment and Santro, Nios and Elite i20 in hatchback segment. We are confident that the coming festive season will drive the market on a steady recovery path with positive customer sentiments.
If things go smoothly, India might just get the all-new Elite i20 during the festive period. Test mules have been spotted at multiple occasions. The premium hatchback, a rival for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Tata Altroz, will get the same engine-transmission options as the Venue.
