Saar: Apart from significant cosmetic changes, the mid-life update also gets an enhanced list of creature comforts.
South Korean carmaker Hyundai has officially unveiled the mid-life update of the Elantra sedan. And, we know exactly what you are thinking. Let us assure you guys that it is a facelift and not a generation change. Although, the significant changes in the looks department would lead anyone to believe the latter. Apart from the cosmetic surgery, the Hyundai Elantra facelift also gets an enhanced list of features.
Let’s start with the design. At the front, the Hyundai Elantra facelift gets a new set of triangular headlamps and a tweaked cascading grille. The bumper, which houses triangular foglamps at either end, is also new and a lot more aggressive to look at. Even the hood has some muscles sprouting out of it, giving the D-segment sedan a hunky stance. The side profile of the can remains unaltered, apart from the bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, up from 16-inches, which will be offered in the USA.
The same amount of attention has been paid to change the rear end of the car. There’s a new boot lid which incorporates a spoiler hump at the end. The position of the number plate has been moved from the centre of the tailgate to the centre of the new bumper. Speaking of which, the bumper now also houses the reversing light and the rear fog lamps. And, of course, the sectioned wraparound taillamps are new and complete the sportier overhaul of the Elantra.
Inside the cabin, the higher variants will now come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The mid and lower trim will continue to offer the old 7.0-inch unit. Hyundai has also been busy upping the safety quotient of the Elantra. The refreshed model will come with gizmos like blind-spot monitoring system, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and a rear-view camera mated to a cross-traffic alert system.
Most of those safety gizmos won’t make it to the version of the India-bound Elantra facelift. Hyundai is expected to launch the refreshed model in India sometime next year. As mostly is the case, there won’t be any mechanical changes to report. Once launched, the Hyundai Elantra facelift will renew its rivalry with the Skoda Octavia and the Toyota Corolla Altis. Also, the South Korean product will lock horns with the India-bound Honda Civic.
