In the wake of this year’s festive period, Honda Cars India introduced Special Editions of the Amaze and CR-V last month. Now, with the festivities slotting in a higher gear, the Indian arm of the Japanese carmaker has launched Exclusive Editions of two models – the Amaze and the WR-V. They’re based on the VX-spec variants. But, they don’t cost any more. Here’s how they are priced:
To justify the “Exclusive Edition” nameplate, Honda has injected both the cars with some additional garnishing. The Amaze gets chrome moulding on the windows, chrome inserts on the fog lamp housings and the boot lid, suede seat covers in black, an armrest, footwell lights in the front, step illumination and an “Exclusive Edition” badge. The last three in that list are also part of the WR-V, along with chrome garnish on the grille and fog lamp housings, suede seat covers and Exclusive Edition body graphics.
As you’d expect, there are no mechanical changes to report. Both get the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The former pumps out 89bhp/113Nm, wheres the latter is available in two states of tunes – 99bhp/200Nm with MT and 79bhp/160Nm with CVT (Amaze only). In a nutshell, the Exclusive Edition Hondas offer a bit more at the same price. Also, they won’t stick around for long.
In India, the Honda Amaze competes with the likes of the Tata Tigor, Ford Aspire, Hyundai Aura and the king of the segment – the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The WR-V, on the other hand, has been a rival to the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Hyundai Venue and the Kia Sonet. By the end of November 2020, that list will expand further with the launch of the Nissan Magnite. Mahindra is also working to introduce the BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) TUV300, while Renault will land the Kiger in the subcompact SUV space in 2021.
