Honda launched the second-gen Amaze in May last year. Since then, the sub-4 metre sedan has been breaking records for the Indian arm of the Japanese carmaker. Now, after 13 months of its launch, the Amaze has surpassed the 1-lakh sales mark. No other Honda car has racked-up sales numbers like the Amaze has in such a short span. Compared to the first-gen model, the second-gen Amaze is 20 per cent better off in terms of sales over the same period.
To celebrate this achievement, Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) has introduced a special Ace Edition of its sub-4 metre sedan. Based on the VX trim, the Amaze Ace Edition is available in four variants – petrol-MT, petrol-CVT, diesel-MT and diesel-CVT. They are priced at Rs 7.89 lakh, Rs 8.72 lakh, Rs 8.99 lakh and Rs 9.72 lakh (ex-showroom India), respectively. Compared to the standard VX trim, the Amaze Ace Edition demands a premium of approximately Rs 13,000.
So, what do you get for your money? On the outside, it features black alloy wheels, a black spoiler mounted on the boot lid, black door visor, door edge garnish and the ‘Ace Edition’ branding. Inside the cabin, there’s a front room lamp and new seat cover which also don ‘Ace Edition’ branding. Is it worth paying the extra amount? Well yes, because this will hold a special place in Amaze’s logbook. For the record, the Honda Amaze Exclusive Edition, which was launched in February this year, carries almost the same price tag as the corresponding petrol-MT and diesel-MT Ace Editions.
As expected, there are no mechanical changes. But Honda did reveal some interesting statistics regarding its sub-4 metre sedan’s performance over the past year or so. The company claims that the second-gen Amaze attracted more than 25 per cent, first-time car buyers. It also went on to add that out of the total sales, 38 per cent came from Tier 1 cities, 32 per cent from Tier 2 and the remaining 30 per cent from Tier 3 markets in India. Lastly, HCIL said that more than 20 per cent of customers purchased one of the automatic variants.
