The Mini charm is unmatchable. Bagging a piece of it has always been an expensive affair in India. But that’s the whole point, isn’t it! Further highlighting that fact is what BMW Group India has launched – the 2021 Mini range. That includes the 3-Door, the Convertible and the John Cooper Works (JCW) hatch. Their prices are Rs 38 lakh, Rs 44 lakh and Rs 45.5 lakh, respectively. As before, they land in India as CBUs (Completely Built Units).

For the year 2021, all three boast sharper styling on the outside and a more feature-rich package on the inside. The front grille, for instance, is even more prominent, and the fog lights are now integrated with the LED headlamps. Even the bumpers have been to the drawing board as they feature some design tweaks. Obviously, the JCW is even more striking to behold as it tries to justify its sportier credentials. The 3-Door and the Convertible ride on 17-inch wheels. The most expensive of the three, however, comes with 18-inch alloys.

Indoors, there are new upholstery and trim theme options. The steering wheel is new and, as before, is super funky to look at. Accompanying it is an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and several elements finished in high-gloss Piano Black. Buttons to control the audio system and the hazard lights have been moved within the circular control unit. And yes, the long list of options still gives a lot of room to spend crazy amounts on a Mini.

Powering the Mini 3-Door and the Convertible is the combination of a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit and a 7-speed automatic transmission. With 189bhp/280Nm on tap, the 3-Door can hit 100kmph from nothing in 6.7 seconds, and the Convertible takes 0.4 of a second longer. The JCW, on the other hand, has a gutsier 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that pumps out 228bhp/320Nm and 8-speed automatic transmission. With that added punch, the JCW can hit 100kmph from nothing in 6.1 seconds.

Mini is offering the 3-Door and the Convertible in four new colours – Rooftop Grey, Island Blue, Enigmatic Black and Zesty Yellow (exclusive to the Convertible). Pay for the optional Piano Black exterior and a bunch of stuff, including the Mini logo, luggage compartment lid and model lettering, goes black. And yes, there are dual-tone finishes available too.

To add that extra ‘peace of mind’, buyers can purchase a service plan. The packages cover Condition Based Services and maintenance work with plans ranging from 3 years/40,000km to 10 years/2,00,000km.
