Saar: The company wants to update the powertrain control module software.
The Indian arm of the American carmaker Ford has initiated a voluntary recall for its sub-4 metre SUV – the EcoSport. A total of 7,249 petrol-powered units of the EcoSport will be recalled to update the powertrain control module (PCM) software. Ford said that units manufactured between November 2017 and March 2018 fall under this dedicated service campaign.
The company went on to mention that the software update is required to eradicate any chances of sudden deceleration or battery drainage. For the uninitiated, the PCM in a motor vehicle usually consists of the transmission control unit (TCU) and the engine control unit (ECU). If the PCM software is faulty, it could have a catastrophic effect on the vehicle, especially if it is in motion.
Needless to say, the software update will be carried at no cost to the customer. If you are one of the owners of a petrol-powered Ford EcoSport and know that your car was manufactured between the abovementioned window, it is recommended that you get in touch with the nearest authorised dealer at the earliest to get an appointment for the fix. If you don’t know about your EcoSport’s manufacturing date, or if you can’t be bothered to find that out, don’t worry because Ford itself will get in touch with you. The company hasn’t mentioned how long the process will take but if it is just a software update it shouldn’t take more than an hour.
This is the second recall campaign for the EcoSport that Ford has organised in the past three months. In July this year, 5,397 units of the sub-compact SUV were recalled. In 4,379 units out of the aforementioned lot, Ford wanted to inspect for a possible problem with the weld integrity of the front lower control arm. For the rest, the company wanted to check the driver and front passenger seat recliner locks.
