A month ago, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) confirmed the name of its upcoming product – Alcazar. The seven-seater SUV, which will slot between the Creta and Tucson for the carmaker, is essentially a three-row version of the former model. Now, HMIL has released the first set of official design sketches of the upcoming offering.
Although similarities in design will be hard to miss between the Creta and Alcazar, Hyundai will give the larger SUV some bespoke touches. The sketch above confirms that. The back end of Alcazar will sport a new tailgate, with no light bar in the centre and a different shape. Even the split taillamps are unique, which, when coupled together, give birth to C-shaped brake lights. Down below is a dual-tone bumper that looks similar to the one on the Creta. Apart from the extra length to accommodate an additional row of seats, the only notable difference in the side profile is the dual-tone alloy wheels’ design. Expect them to be a size larger too.
Indoors, the Alcazar could boast a new dual-tone theme. Even though HMIL says that the SUV will have space for seven passengers, the sketch above shows captain seats in the middle row. That means the Alcazar will offer the option of a six-seat layout too. In that spec, the second-row occupants will share a central armrest alongside a space for two cups/small bottles. The middle-row passengers will also have the flexibility to recline and slide their seats. As for the last row passengers, they’ll benefit from dedicated cup holders, speaker outlets and AC vents. In the front row, the Alcazar looks the same as the donor car.
Alcazar’s list of features, powertrain options and range of variants are still under wraps. In all probability, they will be the same as the Creta’s. But, we might not have to speculate for too long. Why? Come April 6, 2021, and Hyundai will unveil the Alcazar in production-ready form. Hopefully, that’s when we’ll get the confirmed set of details. The Alcazar will launch later this year, and when it does, it will commence a fight against the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV500.
