It was in January this year when Morris Garages (MG) India revealed the prices of the petrol-powered, BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) Hector variants. Courtesy of the upgraded powertrains, the asking price for all those derivatives went up by Rs 25,800. Now, the company has revealed the prices of Hector’s BS6-ready diesel variants. Here’s how they look like:

As suspected, the jump in prices for diesel variants is considerably more when compared to those for the petrol derivatives. But even with the bumped-up figures, the MG Hector remains one of the most value-for-money SUVs in the segment. In BS6 form, there’s no change in power or torque figures of the diesel engine. The FCA-sourced 2.0-litre turbocharged mill pumps out 168bhp/350Nm, and the only transmission option available is a 6-speed manual.

In the features department, the Hector comes with projector headlamps, LED DRLs, roof rails, electronically-adjustable ORVMs, 60:40 split rear seat with recline, rear AC vents and a cooled glovebox as standard. As you climb up the trim tree, gizmos such as i-Smart Connected Car tech, auto headlamps and wipers, automatic climate control, cruise control, 6-way powered driver’s seats, a powered tailgate and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof come part of the package.

On the safety front, features such as dual airbags, electronic stability program, traction control system, ABS with EBD and BA, disc brakes on all wheels, rear parking sensors, rear defogger and three-point seatbelts for all seats come as standard. Additional safety gizmos such as a 360-degree around-view camera, heated ORVMs, front parking sensors, electric parking brake and six airbags are part of costlier variants.

In India, the MG Hector is a direct rival for the Tata Harrier, which has also received the necessary upgrades for BS6 era. Mid- and top-tier derivatives of smaller SUVs, such as the Kia Seltos, Mahindra Scorpio and the Hyundai Creta, also cannibalise Hector’s prices.
