The used car business in India has been on the up for years. And amid a pandemic, it can only flourish further. So, to make the most of the opportunity, Mercedes-Benz India has introduced a new platform called ‘Marketplace’. It’s an omnichannel space where a customer can deal directly with another online or offline through the brand’s authorised dealerships across the country.

What is it?

It is a place where people can sell their old vehicles in exchange for new ones. As per Mercedes-Benz, a seller will get the best price guarantee and complete transparency regarding transactions and the entire process. Also, the tedious task of sharing details and documents can be done online and offline.

For a buyer, the ‘Marketplace’ will offer an enhanced inventory. One can decide to upgrade to a new Mercedes-Benz or opt for a pre-owned one. Again, the company assures that the entire process will be a breeze.

How does it work?

It all starts with a seller uploading the details of his/her car on ‘Marketplace’. Next, he/she can select whether just to sell the vehicle or trade-in for a new Mercedes. Once a query is received, the dealer visits the seller’s premises to evaluate the car. Post that, the ‘for sale’ listing goes live.

When an interested buyer books the car, the seller is notified. It is up to him/her to accept, reject or ask for a better offer. As soon as the buyer and seller find common ground, the dealer buys the car and sells it to the buyer.

What’s in it for Mercedes-Benz and its franchise partners?

The approach opens more opportunities for Mercedes-Benz India and its dealer partners to grow their new and pre-owned car businesses. In addition, they’ll get to introduce and provide services to both sellers and buyers. The brand says that the new initiative should help scale up online used car penetration from 20 to 30 per cent.

So, how do you like this new initiative? Do let us know in the comments below.
