After launching the 3 Series Iconic Edition last week, BMW is back with a special kind of 5 Series. Called the Carbon Edition, it costs Rs 66.3 lakh. To create it, the automaker took the 530i M Sport and garnished it with some bespoke elements. More on that after we run a simple subtraction. The standard 530i M Sport costs Rs 63.4 lakh. That means the newcomer costs Rs 2.9 lakh more.

So, is it worth paying the extra? For the premium, BMW will slap on a bunch of carbon fibre trim pieces. These include the kidney grille, splitters, ORVM caps and the boot-mounted spoiler. Besides that, the car dons 18-inch jet black alloys. And the only body colour available for the 5 Series Carbon Edition is White. Similarly, the interior comes with perforated Sensatec trim in Cognac/Black combination, with some contrast stitching.

The rest of the package remains identical to the standard 530i M Sport. That means a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine under the bonnet, coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission. With 248bhp/350Nm on tap, the car can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 6.1 seconds. The top speed is 250kmph.

On the features front, you get stuff like adaptive suspension, launch control function, cruise control and multiple driving modes. The list of creature comforts also includes four-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, remote control parking, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

BMW India Financial Services offers the 5 Series Carbon Edition with an all-inclusive monthly drive-away price of Rs 89,999. Also, there’s an assured buyback option after four years and flexible end-of-term choices. And, of course, BMW will be happy to customise financial solutions as per the customer’s need.

In India, the BMW 5 Series competes with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Lexus ES, Audi A6 and the recently introduced Volvo S90 facelift. Jaguar plans to rejoin the party as well with the refreshed XF.
