It is getting tougher by the day to make a product stand out in the pocket-friendly car space. There are so many to choose from, and lost in that crowd are the Go and Go+ from Datsun. From October 1, 2019, prices for both those models increased by up to 5 per cent. While that development was off-putting, here’s a welcome one. Datsun has introduced CVT-equipped variants of the Go siblings. Based on the T and T(O) trim levels, both models get two of them. Given below are the ex-showroom India prices:
Up until now, neither of them had a two-pedal setup. Only a 5-speed manual transmission was on offer. The power comes from a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol mill which, with the CVT in place, produces 76hp/104Nm. Here lies the second piece of good news. While the torque figure remains the same as the one with the manual gearbox, the power has gone up by 9hp. Both models become the first in their respective segments to get CVT as an option.
Earlier this year, the duo also became the first of their kinds to get Vehicle Dynamic Control as part of the safety kit. Under the same blanket are features like rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and BA, seatbelt reminder for front occupants, dual airbags and central locking. The range-topping versions rope in gizmos like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 14-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, voice recognition, keyless entry and video playback.
In the Indian market, the Datsun Go locks horns with the Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro and the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. The compact MPV, on the other hand, has just one main rival – the Renault Triber. That said, the Go+ also overlaps the prices of the entry-level Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and the Ford Figo.
