Isuzu India does not have an extensive product portfolio. It has four models, out of which two cater to the commercial sector. That said, they are robust, well-thought-out and command attention on the move. A lot of us seek that kind of package. And if you are one of them, this is probably the best time to get an Isuzu for yourself. The company has announced that by December-end, it will stop production of models which only comply with BSIV (Bharat Stage IV) levels of emission norms.
How will that impact your decision making? Well, get this. As per Isuzu Motors India, the BS6-ready models could cost up to Rs 4 lakh more than they do now. Let’s break that down a bit further. Logic dictates that the maximum price hike will be for the MU-X SUV. Depending on the variant, the upward revision could range between Rs 3-4 lakh. On the other end of the scale, prices for the commercial versions of the D-Max pickup will be bumped-up by Rs 1-1.5 lakh.
Those numbers are enough to entice everyone to prepone their Isuzu-buying plans. Some might say that this is a marketing gimmick and that there will be enough inventory and better offers in the first quarter of 2020. Yes, that could be a possibility. But ask yourself this, do you want to gamble on it?
Presently, the Isuzu MU-X SUV in two variants – the 4×2 AT and the 4×4 AT. While the former wears a price tag of Rs 27.35 lakh, the latter costs Rs 29.32 lakh. You don’t need a calculator to add the expected price hike in those figures. The other option in the personal vehicle segment is the D-Max V-Cross. The price list for it currently ranges between Rs 16.55 lakh and Rs 19.99 lakh. Considering that it falls between the MU-X and the commercial D-Max options, a price increase of at Rs 2 lakh is expected.
The D-Max V-Cross doesn’t have a direct competitor as of now. Isuzu’s SUV, on the other hand, competes with the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the Toyota Fortuner. For the record, none of those products has received a BS6 badge yet.
