If you ever thought that the M2 Competition wasn’t roomy enough and the M5 Competition was way too big, BMW has just answered your prayers. Say hello to the M4 Competition Coupé! Obviously, it lands on Indian shores as a direct import, wearing a price tag of Rs 1.44 crore. Mind you, that’s the ex-showroom price!
Truth be told, the coupé’s actual name is the BMW M4 Competition M xDrive. At least that’s what the spec-sheet says! Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre, turbocharged petrol mill that puts out 503bhp and 650Nm of peak torque. Coupled to the powerplant is a dual-clutch 8-speed transmission that routes the oomph to an active all-wheel-drive system. That setup is enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 3.5 seconds and an electronically-governed top speed of 250kmph. Of course, one could pay more for the optional M Driver’s package, which takes the latter figure up to 290kmph.
It is a full-blown BMW M product. And that means the level of engineering is deeper than just adding more oomph to the equation. So, the M4 Competition comes with adaptive M suspension, adjustable in multiple modes – Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. Also included is a pre-configured M Drive button that sets stuff like Dynamic Stability Control, steering wheel, suspension, head-up display and the M Drivelogic just right for a keen driver.
Creature comforts? Well, the list is lengthy. Included in it are features like auto headlamps and wipers, three-zone automatic climate control, M carbon roof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The car also packs a wireless mobile charger, a 16-speaker 464-watt Harman Kardon sound system, 19-inch alloy wheels (20-inch alloys are an optional extra), front and rear parking sensors and heated front seats.
So, there you have it. BMW has finally brought in something that can give the Audi RS 5 a run for its money. That, by the way, costs just over Rs 1.07 crore and comes in a more practical four-door (Sportback) form. If it’s just sports car thrills you want, you could also consider the Porsche 718 Cayman and the supercharged Jaguar F-Type.
