It’s back? Yes indeed! Last December, BMW launched the ‘Black Shadow’ Edition of the 2 Series Gran Coupe, based on the 220d M Sport variant. And today, nearly a year down the line, the ‘Black Shadow’ nameplate is back. However, this time around, the limited-run model is petrol-powered. More specifically, it’s based on the 220i and costs Rs 43.5 lakh. And like last year’s derivative, the new one is also limited to just 24 units. So, if it’s exclusivity you’re after, the 220i ‘Black Shadow’ Edition offers it in spades.
To create the newcomer, BMW took the standard 220i and garnished it with some add-ons. What are those? There’s a mesh-style M grille, black ORVM caps and an M Performance rear spoiler finished in glossy black. There’s more. The car comes with exhaust outlets draped in black chrome, Jet Black matt 18-inch M Performance alloys, and BMW floating hub caps, ensuring the brand’s logo remains level. Indoors, it’s business as usual.
BMW says that all the added bits and pieces are worth Rs 3.25 lakh. However, the ‘Black Shadow’ edition kit is available at an “exclusive price” for the first few customers. As far as the list of features goes, it includes dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an equally large touchscreen infotainment system and a 100-watt sound system. On the safety front, the car comes with six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX anchorages, Dynamic Stability Control and Cornering Brake Control, among other features.
The power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that pumps out 189bhp and 280Nm of peak torque. With the slick 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the car can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 7.1 seconds.
Like other BMWs, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe is available with customised financial solutions. And yes, there are multiple service plan options up for grabs as well. In India, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe falls in the same price bracket as the Audi Q2, Mini Countryman and Volvo XC40.
