Courtesy of India shifting to BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) standards of emission norms earlier this year, Audi India has been quite busy launching compliant products. It started with the Q8 in January, followed by the A8 L, RS 7 Sportback, RS Q8 and the Q2. What will become the sixth new model offering from the German carmaker is the S5 Sportback. The model, which was teased as the next-in-line introduction during the Q2’s launch last month, has now found space on the company’s official website.
So, what is the S5 Sportback? See if you get it from this – the S5 is to the A5 as the RS 5 is to the S5. Confused? Okay, let’s put it this way – the S5 Sportback is a sportier and punchier version of the A5 Sportback, but not as performance-oriented as the RS 5 Sportback. Better? Good. The difference is not only in powertrain and performance but also in looks. Where the A5 is all svelte, the S5 boasts aggressive-looking elements both indoors and outdoors.
Powering the S5 Sportback will be a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo V6 which pumps out 349bhp/500Nm, while an 8-speed automatic will handle transmission duties. Audi has also equipped the car with the Quattro all-wheel-drive system to ensure little oomph goes to waste. The result is a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.8 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 250kmph.
The S5 Sportback is handsomely equipped on the features front too. The list includes Matrix LED headlamps with LED DRLs, heated and auto-dimming ORVMs, hands-free tailgate operation, powered sports seats and three-zone climate control. The go-fast four-door coupe also packs a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, wireless mobile charger and ambient lighting.
When will it go on sale? Before 2020 comes to a close. Expect it to carry a price tag north of Rs 70 lakh. With that kind of price, do you think it offers a decent balance between luxury, comfort and performance?
