Saar: It will wear the 45 TFSI badge at the rear and will house a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with 252PS/370Nm at its disposal.
A while back, Audi India promised that it will launch more petrol-powered variants of its models. Well, the Q5 is the next in the lot to receive just that. On June 28, 2018, the Audi Q5 will get a petrol-fed engine in its portfolio. Currently, it was only on offer with a diesel-powered 2.0-litre engine that produces 190PS/400Nm of torque and is known by the tag 35 TDI.
The petrol engine in question will be lifted straight from Audi Q5’s elder sibling, the Q7. It is a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol unit that puts out 252PS of power and 370Nm of torque. That means it will wear the 45 TFSI tag at the back. But unlike in the Q7, in which the same engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, it will be offered with a 7-speed automatic gearbox in the Q5. The setup will be enough for the mid-sized SUV to sprint from nought to 100kmph in 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 237kmph. Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system will come as standard.
As far as features are concerned, they should be at par with its diesel-fed sibling. The list includes powered front seats, a choice of leather/faux leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, MMI radio plus, 8-speaker sound system, cruise control, rearview camera and auto-dimming interior rearview mirror. Whether Audi will launch two different trims with the petrol engine, like it does with the diesel (Premium Plus and Technology), remains to be seen.
By gaining a petrol engine, the Audi Q5 is set to outshine its rival from Sweden – the Volvo XC60 – which is only available with a diesel engine. Other competitors, such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the BMW X3, have petrol-powered engines on offer. In fact, the BMW launched the X3 xDrive30i just over a week ago. As far as price is concerned, the Audi Q5 45 TFSI is likely to undercut the diesel-fed Q5 variants, which are priced at Rs 55.27 lakh for the Premium Plus trim and Rs 59.79 lakh for the Technology trim.
