Mahindra confirms that an all-new model called the XUV700 will launch in Q2 of FY22. If you don’t know how to decipher the latter part, the upcoming SUV will arrive between July and September this year. It’ll be built at Mahindra’s plant in Chakan, which is near Pune. Of course, most of the details are under wraps at the moment. But, the automaker says the SUV will be built on the W601 platform.
The XUV700 will be offered with petrol and diesel engines, mated to manual and automatic transmissions. Yes, the option of an all-wheel-drive system will also make the cut. If we go by simple logic, the upcoming model will slot above the XUV500 and below the Alturas G4. And, in all probability, the XUV700 will have a three-row layout. The carmaker says the XUV700 will have “world-class safety features, reaffirming Mahindra’s commitment towards safety.”
Here’s what Veejay Nakra, CEO of the automotive division at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), said in a press release:
XUV700, one of the most awaited offerings from Mahindra, is sure to hit the sweet spot with customers. Built on the new W601 platform, XUV700 marks the beginning of the next generation of sophisticated and authentic Mahindra SUVs, which will offer an adrenaline rush like never before.
R Velusamy, the chief of global product development at M & M&M, reiterated that the XUV700 is built on an all-new global platform and will pack first-in-segment technologies.
Mahindra has successfully established itself as one of the largest SUV makers in the country. Products like the Scorpio, Thar, Bolero and XUV500 have played their crucial roles to help their conceiver claim that title. And, as we all know, SUVs sell more in India than any other type of private four-wheeler. The XUV300, for instance, is part of the most hotly contested SUV segment – the sub-4 metre. Similarly, the XUV700 should help Mahindra garner a larger piece of the pie.
