Good news, Tata and Altroz fans! The Altroz has turned two. Woo-hoo! And to mark the occasion in the best way possible, the homegrown automaker has introduced two new #Dark variants of the hatchback. Unlike the previously available derivatives, the new ones come with a diesel-fed heart – a welcome decision as far as potential Altroz buyers are concerned. One wears the XT badge, whereas the other comes in the XZ+ form. The introductory prices start at Rs 7.96 lakh.
In XT spec, the Altroz #Dark Edition comes with perforated leatherette seats, rear armrest, #Dark tint Hyper-style wheels, height-adjustable driver’s seat, rear headrest and front adjustable seat belts. But, that’s not all, as the derivative also packs a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, #Dark mascot and a dark exterior and interior theme. Get the XZ+ variant, and the list of highlights expands with stuff like Brake Sway Control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Under the hood is a 1.5-litre diesel mill that pumps out 89bhp/200Nm, while a 5-speed manual handles transmission duties. If you don’t want that powerplant, you can have the Altroz #Dark Edition with the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol motor. The former produces 85bhp/113Nm, and the latter is much gutsier at 108bhp/140Nm. Even more noteworthy is that both petrol-fed #Dark Editions are available in XZ+ form only and cost about Rs 30,000 more than the donor variants.
Over the two years, Tata Motors has sold more than 1.2 lakh units of the Altroz. That’s despite the absence of an automatic transmission option. As per the brand, the YTD (Year-To-Date) market share of Altroz is over 20 per cent. In India, it competes with other premium hatchbacks – the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and the Honda Jazz. So, out of the lot, which one would you drive home?
