This is the all-new Maruti Suzuki Celerio, bookings for which officially opened earlier this month. And the carmaker hasn’t just unveiled the hatchback but launched it as well. Prices start at Rs 4.99 lakh and go up to Rs 6.94 lakh. Before getting into the details, let’s get the detailed price list out of the way. Here it is:

Compared to the first-gen model, the second-gen one is bigger in dimensions. Even the wheelbase is a bit longer than before. And we know what that means! Yes, a roomier cabin. The boot, which can gulp over 300 litres of stuff (313 litres to be precise), is a massive plus for a car of this size and price. The new Celerio also has a higher ground clearance – a much sought-after feature for the masses. And the range-topping versions ride on 15-inch alloys.

Since we’ve touched upon them, let’s round you the features the new Celerio offers. Based on the variant chosen, you’ll get stuff like front fog lamps, rear wiper with washer and defogger, Hill Hold Assist, steering-mounted controls and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The list of features also includes a height-adjustable driver’s seat, dual airbags, keyless entry, push-button start/stop and manual headlamp levelling function.

No matter which variant you finalise, the car will come with the same engine. It’s a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol mill that puts out 66bhp and 89Nm of torque. As standard, the powerplant comes coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Alternatively, you can have it with a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). In Maruti Suzuki’s world, AMT is AGS (Auto Geat Shift). Cementing the claim – India’s most fuel-efficient petrol car – is the certified mileage. The new Celerio can return up to 26.68kmpl.

As before, Maruti Suzuki will sell the Celerio from its Arena range of dealerships. And there are six colour options – Arctic White, Silky Silver, Glistering Grey, Solid Fire Red, Speedy Blue and Caffeine Brown.

The new Celerio finds itself in the same space as two other Maruti Suzukis – the S-Presso and the Wagon R. Other options in the same price bracket include the Hyundai Santro, Renault Kwid 1.0 and the Tata Tiago.
