If there’s one model that has worked well for FCA India in years (maybe decades), it is the Jeep Compass. And now, with India migrating from BSIV to BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) standards of emission norms, the compact SUV has done so as well. In the process, it has lost some variants. Here’s the new price list:

In case you didn’t notice, out of the thirteen, just three are petrol-powered variants. Math lovers would say that’s 23 per cent of the total range. Also worth noting is that a couple of trim levels – Sport and Longitude Option – have been dropped. For the rest, prices have predictably gone up. Although it wouldn’t make a big difference to those who have set their eyes on the Jeep Compass, the price difference between the least-expensive and most-expensive variant is Rs 11.11 lakh. That gap is the widest in the segment.

Even though the Compass now complies with the stricter emission norms, there’s no change in the power and torque figures. The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, which produces 161bhp/250Nm, is available with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission). Diesel lovers would get a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor that generates 171bhp/350Nm. That engine is available with both a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. As for the 4×4 system, that is on offer with the diesel mill only. For the record, the special Bedrock and Black Pack editions are no longer available.

In terms of creature comforts, there are no changes to report. The Jeep Compass competes with the likes of the Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Volkswagen T-Cross and the Honda CR-V in India. Soon, Skoda will land itself in the same space with the Karoq and Hyundai will rejoin the party with the Tucson facelift. Speaking of facelifts, even the Compass is due for a mid-life refresh. Reports suggest that it should happen by early next year.
