For Mini, 2020 has been all about Limited Edition models. Back in February, it launched the Clubman Indian Summer Red Edition. Then, in October, we received the Mini Convertible Sidewalk Edition the Mini Countryman Black Edition. And now, the BMW-owned British brand has introduced the John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition. Just like it did for the previous two, Mini has restricted the availability of the newest limited edition model to only 15 units. And each one costs Rs 46.9 lakh, excluding taxes. Also, it is only available to book online.

The Mini John Cooper Works (JCW) GP Inspired Edition. That name alone is a mouthful and a half! But there’s a good reason behind it. Mini says that the model is “Inspired by Motorsport” and “it brings authentic racetrack flair to the road”. Satisfied? Perhaps you’ll get more of a kick when you dig deeper into the details. Starting with the exterior colour. Mini calls it “Racing Grey Metallic”, and it is exclusive to this model. However, the roof, OVRMs and JCW rear spoiler are finished in “Melting Silver Metallic”.

There’s more to the exterior. The 18-inch JCW Cup Spoke dual-tone alloy wheels come with GP-badged wheel hub caps. Mini has also thrown in the Piano Black Exterior package. That means the headlamps and taillamps (inside and out), front grille, door handles, fuel filler cap and the MINI emblem are all black.

Indoors, the JCW sports seats finished in leather Dinamica, boast GP badging. Even the front floor carpets flaunt the GP logo. Other design cues include contrasting red stitching on the JCW steering wheel as well as the mats in the rear and, 3D-printed paddle shifts and door sill finishers with GP badging. Mini has also equipped the car with a panorama glass roof.

Propulsion comes courtesy of a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which produces 228bhp/320Nm and 8-speed automatic transmission. The car can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 6.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 246kmph. Not that it would matter much to many, but the limited edition model can also return up to 16.47kmpl.

Features? There are several on offer. The list includes a rear-view camera, LED headlamps, automatic climate control, auto headlamps and wipers and a Harman Kardon sound system. Want more? The car also comes with run-flat tyres, rear parking sensors, an on-board navigation system, an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay support and multiple driving modes.

Mini loyalists might just like this limited edition the best. Sure, it has a long name. But, it is the closest thing to a motorsport-derived Mini one could get in India. Now that alone is worth splashing the money on it. No?
