Saar: The variant list has been chopped down to just seven, comprising of four petrol-powered and three diesels.
After a wait of over three years, Honda Cars India has finally launched an updated Jazz in India. Prices start at a whopping Rs 7.35 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 9.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Now, there’s a reason behind why the base price is so high. Earlier, the Honda Jazz was available in twelve variants, which now have been chopped down to just seven – four petrol-powered and three diesels.
Here’s the variant-wise price list:

As you can see in the table above, the petrol-powered V manual variant of the 2018 Honda Jazz is the least expensive of the lot. On the diesel front, the S variant is the entry-point. A new variant – VX CVT – has been added to the list of choices. There are no styling or mechanical changes to report. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque, whereas the 1.5-litre diesel generates 100PS of power and 200Nm of torque. Like before, only the petrol engine is offered with the 7-step CVT (continuously variable transmission) unit. Fans of manual gearboxes will get a 5-speed box with petrol and a 6-speed setup with the diesel variants. As you’d expect, the mileage figures haven’t changed either. While the petrol manual and CVT variants return 18.2kmpl and 19kmpl respectively, the diesel manual setup is good for 27.3kmpl.
Now you can understand why this particular model isn’t being labelled as a facelift. Because it really isn’t one. The only tiny styling tweak that Honda has bothered to include on the outside are the upgraded taillamps which now house LED elements and look like a pure Volvo rip-off. The 2018 Honda Jazz is available in five colours – Radiant Red, Lunar Silver Metallic, White Orchid Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic and Golden Brown Metallic.
Where do you find the biggest change? The answer to that question is – the equipment list. In the 2018 guise, the Honda Jazz gets more of it, such as a new 7.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, push-button start and cruise control. The safety quotient has been upped too, with rear parking sensors and speed-sensing auto door lock are now standard across all variants. There’s also a new front armrest but, sadly, Honda has taken away the magic seats, which were earlier available in the top-spec variant. It is also worth noting that the cruise control and Honda Smart Key System with Keyless remote are not available on petrol-manual variants.
Going back to the question of price. You must have noticed that Honda has ignored the urge to increase the price with the updated Jazz. In fact, most of the variants are marginally cheaper than before. But even after that, the 2018 Honda Jazz comes out to be the most expensive amongst its segment, which includes the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20. The former is priced between Rs 5.36 lakh and Rs 8.50 lakh, while the price list of the latter ranges from Rs 5.41 lakh to Rs 9.22 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
