Saar: The Swedish carmaker has launched two more variants – Momentum and Inscription.

On July 10, 2018, we reported that Volvo Auto India will soon introduce two more variants of the XC40 in India. Well, good news! The Swedish carmaker has finally introduced them in India. Tagged simply as the Momentum and Inscription, they are priced at Rs 39.9 lakh and Rs 43.9 lakh respectively. You can get any one of these booked with a minimum token amount of Rs 2 lakh which, of course, is refundable if you change your mind.

Before we go ahead and list what all you get with the newly introduced variants, let’s clear the air a bit. On July 4, 2018, the Volvo XC40 R-Design variant was launched at an introductory price of Rs 39.9 lakh. As you can notice, that’s exactly the same as the price mentioned above for the entry-level Momentum variant. What’s going on? Well, Volvo Auto India mentioned that only 200 units of the XC40 will come to India in the first lot. Now that all those variants have been booked, the introductory price of the XC40 R-Design is no longer valid. The said variant will now cost Rs 42.9 lakh and as we mentioned about a week ago, it is now sandwiched between the newly launched variants.

Now, let’s see what you get with the new variants. Underneath the pretty exterior, the powertrain remains exactly the same. The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel mill produces 190PS/400Nm and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive. The differentiator between the trio is the level of equipment they get as standard.

Volvo XC60 Will Soon Be Produced Locally

The Inscription variant is now the most expensive and over the R-Design variant, it comes with features like wood inserts on the interior trim, crystal glass on gear shift knob, chrome inserts on the grille, a 12-volt power outlet in the luggage area and different 18-inch alloy wheels. In short, the Inscription variant enhances the luxury quotient, whereas the R-Design is on the sporty side. The R-Design has some interesting touches which you don’t get on the Inscription. The list includes paddle-shifters behind the steering wheel and glossy skid plates on the front and rear.

As you’d expect, the Momentum variant isn’t as generously equipped as the other two. It misses out on features like adaptive cruise control, Harman Kardon sound system, heated seats, wireless mobile charging and fog lamps. Thankfully, Volvo hasn’t skimped much on the safety front. With the exception of adaptive cruise control, all variants come with pilot assist, traction control, lane-keeping assist, blind spot warning and eight airbags as standard.

Volvo Auto India is seeking to capture a 10 per cent market share in India by 2020. The Volvo XC40 will play a vital role in achieving that figure because it caters to customers who are after a premium compact SUV. That category, up until now, only had four contenders – the MINI Clubman, BMW X1, Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Note: All prices mentioned above are ex-showroom India.
