Datsun has launched the updated range of the Redi-Go with prices starting at Rs 2.80 lakh. No matter which trim you buy, it will now come with additional safety features like rear parking sensors, driver’s airbag, seatbelt reminder for front seats and a high-speed warning system. Earlier this year, Datsun added the safety of ABS with EBD to its least-expensive offering’s entire line-up.

The company has also shortened the list of variants for the Redi-Go. The T trim, which earlier slotted between the A and S trim levels, has now been done away with. Now, the car is available in a total of five variants. All three engine-transmission combinations, however, are still on offer. The 0.8-litre engine, which is good for 54PS/72Nm, is available only with a 5-speed MT. The gutsier 1.0-litre mill, which produces 68PS/91Nm, can be had with either a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT.

With a claimed mileage of 23kmpl, the AMT-equipped Redi-Go is the most frugal of the lot. The mileage figures for the 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre engines with the manual transmission are 22.7kmpl and 22.5kmpl, respectively. Datsun offers the Redi-Go in five colours – Grey, Silver, Red, White and Green.

As far as the list of features goes, the Datsun Redi-Go offers a Bluetooth-enabled music system with two speakers, three-point seatbelts in the front and rear rows, central locking, remote fuel lid and tailgate opening, a trip computer, manual AC and 222 litres of boot space. In India, it competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto (Rs 2.94 – 4.14 lakh) and its step-sibling, the Renault Kwid (Rs 2.76 – 4.75 lakh).
