Porsche India has swung into action again after introducing the Panamera Platinum Edition last month. This time around, we’ve received two variants – the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0. The former costs Rs 1.465 crore, whereas the latter comes with an ex-showroom price tag of approximately Rs 1.5 crore. Both cost around Rs 20-21 lakh more than the standard derivatives.

It doesn’t matter which GTS iteration you settle for, the convertible (Boxster) or the coupe (Cayman); the oomph comes from the same powerplant. It’s a naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre, six-cylinder engine that pumps out 394bhp and 420Nm of peak torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (PDK) handles transmission duties. The setup is enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of around 4 seconds and a top speed of nearly 290kmph.

Of course, there’s a lot more to these two-seater sportscars than just a gutsier engine. The cars come with Porsche Active Suspension Management, a reduced ride height (by 20mm), a sports exhaust system and Porsche Torque Vectoring with a mechanical limited-slip differential. Those standard features help the GTS 4.0 siblings deliver their keynote speech – a more engaging driving experience.

The new variants can be differentiated from standard versions with contrasting black design cues (at the front and rear, including light lenses) and a dark Alcantara cabin, covering Porsche’s Sports Seats Plus, steering wheel and the centre console. The list of features includes 20-inch light-alloy wheels in Satin-Gloss black, Z20 grade high-performance tyres (235/35 in the front and 265/35 at the rear), and cross-drilled disc brakes with brakes red callipers.

The list of creature comforts includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Porsche Communication Management, Sport Chrono Package, and compatibility with Track Precision App. Yes, several optional extras are available, including Porsche Connect, an online navigation system with real-time traffic information and two sound systems – one from Bose and the other from Burmester.

In India, the Porsche 718 GTS 4.0 variants fall in the same price range as the Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic V8s. So, to which showroom are you heading?
