Who remembers the Harrier #Dark Edition? Launched in August 2019, it became India’s first car to carry a hashtag in its name. Back then and until recently, the special version was available in just one derivative founded on the XZ trim. Now, Tata Motors has silently introduced a new #Dark Edition based on the XT trim level. Price? At Rs 15.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), it costs about Rs 1.3 lakh less than the other higher-spec #Dark Edition. However, compared to the standard XT variant, it cost Rs 10,000 more.
As you’d expect, both #Dark Editions feature the same special treatment inside and out. That includes the exclusive Atlas Black paint, 17-inch black alloy wheels, an all-black interior theme accentuated with a bunch of gunmetal grey inserts, and black front & rear skid plates. However, they do differ on the package front. The less-expensive of the two misses out on gizmos such as an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system mated to a 9-speaker JBL sound system, six airbags, Xenon HID projector headlamps, multiple terrain response modes, hill hold/descent control, ISOFIX anchorages and front fog lamps with cornering function.
Presently, all iterations of the Tata Harrier get the same powertrain. It consists of an FCA-sourced, 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 138bhp/350Nm, and a 6-speed manual transmission. In the coming weeks, it will receive the necessary upgrades to earn the mandate BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) certification. When that happens, the Harrier’s price list will receive a substantial upward revision. Next month, hopefully at the Auto Expo, Tata Motors will launch the seven-seater version of the Harrier. Christened as the Gravitas, that will house a more potent and BS6-ready version of the Harrier’s engine.
Tata Motors confirms that a total of 15,000 units of the Harrier have found takers in approximately eleven months. The SUV faced some tough times to lure customers away from strong contenders like the MG Hector and the Jeep Compass.
