You were waiting for this one, weren’t you! Tata Motors has commenced accepting bookings for the BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) Harrier, with the minimum token amount set at Rs 30,000. You can either reserve one online or by visiting an authorised Tata Motors dealership anywhere in the country. In all likelihood, it will gain a price list at the Auto Expo 2020. That’s where Tata Motors will unveil the Gravitas, which is essentially a three-row Harrier, as well.
As it was in the BS4 form, the BS6-compliant Harrier comes with only a diesel engine option. What needs attention is that the upgraded engine not only meets the stricter emission norms but also puts out significantly more power. With 168bhp/350Nm on tap, the 2.0-litre turbocharged mill pumps out 30bhp more. That should help put a smile on the face of critics, who thought the Harrier was underpowered. Also, in addition to the 6-speed manual unit, the engine will be on offer with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
That brings us to the Harrier’s list of variants. Tata Motors has introduced a new range-topping trim level – XZ+. Over the XZ derivative, the new one will rope in features such as a panoramic sunroof, 6-way powered driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support, auto-dimming IRVM and two-tone, diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels. To top things off, the company will offer the upgraded Harrier range in a new colour – Calypso Red – and with redesigned ORVMs.
Here’s how the new variant list looks like:
With the upgraded powertrain, more features and the option of an automatic transmission, the Tata Harrier should gain more traction than before. What Tata Motors must do is to price the new Harrier range competitively. In the market, the Harrier competes with the Jeep Compass and the MG Hector.
