As we are perfectly aware, the future of transportation will revolve around zero-emission electric vehicles. And like all other major players in the automotive world, Skoda Auto has been prepping its game plan for that future. At the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), the Czech carmaker will showcase the Vision iV Concept vehicle. It is the first vehicle which will feature Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB). What that means is that the concept vehicle will give us a glimpse of what the Skoda branded EVs (electric vehicles) could look like in the near future.

Since the opening day for GIMS 2019 is still a few weeks away, Skoda has released a couple of sketches of the Vision iV Concept study to keep our excitement levels high. Skoda says that the 22-inch wheels are aerodynamically optimised. What that means is that the coupé-like crossover will get the minimum possible drag from its wheels. Speaking of aerodynamic drag, the cameras replacing the conventional ORVMs should also play their part in making the concept vehicle as slippery through the air as possible.

Other design cues for the concept EV include a light strip in the upper part of the grille, which also features vertical ribs, large air intakes integrated into an angry front bumper, a boot-lid mounted spoiler, Skoda lettering, which lights up in red colour, flanked by LED-powered taillamps and a sporty diffuser.

Of course, all that is part of a concept vehicle. By the time Skoda comes close to carving out a production version of it, a number of those design cues and features will be shelved because of feasibility constraints. The first pure-electric vehicle from Skoda will enter production next year. The company has also said that over the next four years, it will be investing approximately 2 billion euros in new drive systems and new mobility services. It has set itself a target of introducing more than ten electrified models by the end of 2022.
