In typical Skoda fashion, the teaser campaign for the European Kamiq is both extensive and exciting. The fourth chapter pops up with an image for its interiors, focusing primarily on the dashboard’s design and layout. If you think you’ve seen something similar on some other cars from the Volkswagen family, you are correct. Fish out the Skoda Scala and the Volkswagen T-Cross and give your power to recall some deserved credit.

Done? Or you couldn’t be bothered? Either way, let’s divert our focus back to the Kamiq. The all-black theme of the interior exudes quality, refinement and a whole lot of kit. The three-spoke multifunction steering wheel will be optionally available with heating functionality. Just behind it is the optional Virtual Cockpit, which stretches 10.25-inch diagonally and will come with multiple display modes. The unmissable floating touchscreen looks sharp and will feature smartphone integration via multiple channels.

Of course, we’ve seen these options before. But a funky design cue which can go unnoticed is how the AC vents at either end of the dashboard stretch all the way to the doors. Nice! Skoda will also equip the Kamiq with a three-colour (copper, red and white) ambient lighting system which, along with the contrasting stitching and soft-touch panels, should add a dash of quality and style inside the cabin. The options list includes upholstery finished in Suedia, which is a fine microfibre material and heating for the windscreen and rear seats.

Obviously, there will be a lot more on offer. While Skoda hasn’t confirmed them, the Kamiq will also boast a sunroof, auto headlamps and wipers, dual-zone climate control and multiple USB ports. We can also see a button for drive modes and a panel ahead of the gear shift lever for wireless mobile phone charging.

Math lovers, don’t worry! Skoda has been lenient enough to induce some numbers in this teaser. Thanks to Volkswagen Group’s modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform, the Kamiq will have a generous wheelbase of 2,651mm. That has helped Skoda carve out a knee clearance of 73mm for the rear passengers. For transporting stuff, the standard boot space of 400 litres can be increased to 1,395 litres by folding the rear seats down.

It’s not long before we get to see the Skoda Kamiq in its full glory. That, by the way, will happen during the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show which will open its gates on March 5. We are particularly excited about the Kamiq because it, in a slightly different form, will end up on our shores in 2020 as Skoda’s first product under the India 2.0 project.
