In a bid to strengthen its roots in the state of Tamil Nadu and get the ball rolling to establish a strong foothold in southern states of India, Skoda Auto India has inaugurated its largest workshop in Coimbatore. The said facility is located on the Uppilipalayam Main Road, Sowripalayam, and has been erected with an association with SGA Cars India.
Spread over an area of 49,585 sq. ft., the workshop has been built in line with Skoda’s new corporate identity and design. With more than 40 dedicated aftersales personnel and 50 bays under its roof, the facility has the capacity to serve 20,000 vehicles every year. To contribute to Skoda Auto’s ‘Green Future’ vision, the workshop also has rainwater harvesting capabilities.
Here’s what Zac Hollis, who is the director for sales, services and marketing at Skoda Auto India Pvt. Ltd., said at the inauguration event:
Skoda Auto India is set to strengthen its presence in the southern markets of our nation. The dimensions of the new facility are a reflection of the region’s potential for the brand. We are confident that our partnership with SGA Cars India will play an important role, in scaling up the brand, by offering our patrons a hassle-free ownership experience and utmost peace of mind.
As we are perfectly aware, Skoda Auto India will be leading the way for the Volkswagen Group in India under the India 2.0 project. The first set of products, which will be underpinned by the MQB A0 IN platform, will launch next year. The products, the first of which will be a compact SUV to rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, will be shared between Skoda and Volkswagen in India.
Apart from new customer service initiatives such as Skoda Shield Plus and ‘EasyBuy’ programme for the Superb sedan, Skoda Auto India will also be expanding its dealer network. Over the next three years, it aims to double the dealer network across 50 new cities in India.
